What is a tabletop roleplaying game?

A tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) is a mostly improvised narrative adventure. One player plays as a guide, while the others become actors without scripts for the story. The game is often unique to different groups since each creates what they think will be the most fun!

How do I start playing a TTRPG?

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is the most popular of such and a great place for beginners to start!

You'll need at least one other person to play with, but ideally a small group of three to seven players. Download the Basic Rules to get started.

Decide who will be the Dungeon Master (DM) that guides the adventure. The DM will begin preparing an adventure for the players, while the players will create characters.

If you enjoy the game enough, buy the core rulebooks to expand your world and options!

RUNE FOUNDRY'S RESIDENTS

You've only just met a few people in the marketplace, so you're sure to get to know them better over time. They seem friendly enough. Here's what you know so far:

  • GRIMMOTH

    Rune Foundry's resident Master Dicesmith. His forge creates dice, tools of an adventurer. The materials he sources come from many years of dangerous travels. His craftsmanship is renowned and you feel power in each creation! It's difficult to glean much about his past, but he has a quiet friendliness.

  • ISABELLA

    Quick with wit and even faster to charm, she is an artisan of woven apparel. Even for an acclaimed Masterweaver, she possesses an uncanny ability to somehow know things about a person with just a glance. Her teams of weavers take great pride in being under her direction.

  • THE LIBRARIAN

    For someone who's job is to gather and organize, he sure has a hard time doing so. He seems incredibly reluctant for now to part with any of his collection, but he has relented slightly. It's probably best to stifle your laughter each time he slips on his own cluttered floor!

  • THE POSTMAN

    He really loves his job! His timid first impression is quickly replaced by an infectious joy for social engagement. His care for the community makes him an easy source for any information.

  • ODMEER

    The current sole apprentice to Rune Foundry's Master Dicesmith, Grimmoth. Seems overly eager for new challenges, but often comes out successful! Some of his tales do seem slightly exaggerated though.

  • THE WEAVERS

    The weavers act in reverent awe of their leader Isabella. They work quickly to bring her visions of modern apparel to life.

  • THE CRAFTSWOMAN

    She's still setting up shop, but promises many useful things to come. Perhaps accessories to the products from other vendors?

  • THE RUNELYTE

    A group? Acolytes for a hidden cause? More information surely to come.
