“Isn’t he coming to say hi to us?” a small girl asks as she tugs on your cloak. You’ve been getting this question a lot in the last hour. Naturally, everyone is excited to see him and to tell him they’ve been good, but they’re right - he should have come by now. After reassuring the child that all will be well, you begin to make your way through the train car when the door slides open and a loud voice booms over the racket of the occupied train. “Empty your pockets and drop your cookies! Santa won’t be hosting today. We’ve taken over the Northern Locomotive!”

Enjoy this FREE Christmas DnD one shot adventure, compatible with 5e! Add to cart and when you check out, the one-shot PDF will be sent to the email address that you provide.

ASK RUNE FOUNDRY

What is a one-shot adventure?

A one-shot adventure for a tabletop roleplaying game such as Dungeons & Dragons is content intended to be completed by the group within a single session.

This contrasts with a regular campaign which typically lasts at least several sessions to complete the story.

Multiple one-shots can be linked together to create a campaign.

Can a new Dungeon Master use this content?

All Rune Foundry content is intended to be simple enough for new DMs, yet interesting and useful for experienced DMs as well.

Feel free to reach out to hello@runefoundry.com with any questions!

This was the first time I DMed and it couldn't have been easier. I was a bit nervous to run it but with this step by step guide it was a piece of cake.
I created some maps on PPT (attached pictures) which gave the session a very nice, visual to it.
We played for 8 hours more or less and had players begging for another session. Great job, we all loved it. Played with another group a week later (they were new to D&D) and they also had an amazing time!

Very Fun!

Well written and easy to implement. I've been using this as my template for my own one-shots.

Wonderful for Children!

Thank you so much for this one shot, it was the perfect framework to use as an introductory one-shot to teach a group of children D&D combat! This was their first time ever playing, I had to home brew some of the rules, make them squishy and fudge the numbers a bit to keep the game moving- these were 6-8 year old kids, so they were very easily distracted. With a two hour time limit in mind, we had to skip the third car, and we also severely cut back on the big bad’s HP, but it all worked out!

I added the twist to keep the children interested- when our monk rolled a Nat 20 and pushed the elf into the furnace of the train, he caught fire and ran screaming off the train (all of our bad guys jumped off the train instead of dying, part of the reason this setting is so good for kids) setting fire to the bandit’s clothes, revealing green fur underneath- a Grinch in disguise, a creature only heard about in legends! The children lost their minds, screaming “Kill the Grinch!”

nice change of pace

Very well-written, and nicely laid out. Definitely made a nice change of pace from the dungeon crawl my party had been doing.
